A Generative Workshop for the Year of the Yin Wood Snake
Teaching Artists: Barbara Esmark & Lissa Kiernan
Join us for a special gathering that combines Chinese forms of Qigong, Mythopoetic movement and the creative act of writing. The Yin Wood Snake slithers into our lives as the quintessential symbol and teacher of Qi or life force, because it is adaptable, flexible, and water-like in its movements. It embodies great speed and power. The snake sheds its skin – an act of transition, transgression and transformation. Imagine what that new skin must feel like and we begin to understand why the snake is associated not only with discernment but sensitivity.
This year, the combination of Wood and Fire holds the potential for adaptability, wisdom, energy and transformation. Through a balanced program of postures and writing prompts we will :
cultivate mind body connection
open channels of energy and intuition
gain support for “slithering” out of our comfort zone
learn gentle and easy to follow movements for strength, balance, well-being
stimulate the imagination absent the critical voice
honor and nourish the idea of letting go
practice healing mediation and movement for the heart and liver
encourage tenderness and sensitivity for ourselves and others
write for oneself or to share with others
Limited to 12. Led by Bobbi Esmark, Taijiquan and Qigong teacher, artist and member of several poetry groups, and Lissa Kiernan, founder and director of the Poetry Barn in Shokan, NY.
